<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy New Year! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been so bad about blogging this year, but I wanted to finish up posting quilts I completed in 2014. I fell in love with the <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt-tutorial.html">giant star quilt</a> and decided to make one as a wall hanging. We have those big walls created by high ceilings that are impossible to decorate and I needed something big but didn't want to break the bank. I got out my stash of AMH and used some linen I had found cheap. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was supposed to be a 'tester' to see how it went before making a 'real' one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, I love this and it has been hung for about 6 months now. I used the <a href="http://www.amyalamode.com/blog/2012/01/18/how-to-hang-a-quilt-tutorial/">hanging method from Amy ala mode</a> and am thrilled with how it looks, kinda floating. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In other needle news, I have knitted many a circular scarf.... K,K,K. Part of my plan for the future is to deviate from the easy, so I decided to tackle crochet. I have done it before, years ago, and as a child was taught by my grandmother. I picked a super easy pattern to refresh myself and now have a collection of crochet scarfs as well, but plan to move on to the Crafty class on Crochet, with the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/196313873/crochet-shawl-pattern-instant-download?ref=sr_gallery_2">Sunday Shawl</a> as my end of year goal. Wish me luck!</div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I did cheat a little this year and actually made two. I made this one with the scraps from the star quilt. I didn't have a layer cake but was cutting either FQ or lengths that I had and was left with a nice pile of strips, perfect for an improve strip quilt. Sam took it back to college when she returned form Thanksgiving break, for a bit of Christmas cheer in the dorms. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year I did more than flags. See the bling on these uniforms? That is crystal tape that was hand sewn on. Between another mom and I we did all 4 drum majors (conductor, not drum player), averaging 12 hours per uniform. Go ahead, zoom in, I hope the details of those points is visible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also made 12 add hoc uniforms. We were requested to take uniform with white shoulders and get rid of the white. After some inventive attempts of dye and some use of spray paint we ended up cutting the white off (old uniforms) and sewing lower section onto extra dark uniforms. Crazy!</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We added the gold trim to give a little contrast with the gray on gray on top of "m". </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll start with this fabric, <a href="http://portabellopixie.typepad.com/portabellopixie/2011/06/secret-garden.html">Sandi Henderson Secret Garden</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you find this stuff, get it! It is luscious! it is so soft and wonderful! I had done a <a href="http://elmo-lifescraps.blogspot.com/2013/03/national-quilt-day.html">prior quilt back</a> in another print from the line and when I found this one cheap, I grabbed it!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijyBj6F6FpEv8-zE2x_TTda3Jtlixxm2KuivuZfHcT5UvEYg-IJpnrB_MeXmZiB1aE22fuDKFG8sMXd9RcZOkf2ihxak108aKD5SP6-ldR9NH7wZyEiGfLFu3XrzCKJaJSutmdo53y4pXg/s1600/IMG_2657.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijyBj6F6FpEv8-zE2x_TTda3Jtlixxm2KuivuZfHcT5UvEYg-IJpnrB_MeXmZiB1aE22fuDKFG8sMXd9RcZOkf2ihxak108aKD5SP6-ldR9NH7wZyEiGfLFu3XrzCKJaJSutmdo53y4pXg/s320/IMG_2657.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The large scale print worked perfect for the backing of this quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv9HHLDmp1dKFH1bHgUc6YjpBfLWwGh66_aNsOA9KlLN8DpuOVLN7D793kUwSKzx24d-_jlhaZ2E2GeeEHLQWiuiuoHDw8Gd1AKykY62ybN4Td4QscalPg_qQZPSSQaXFetySVNrOBT1L5/s1600/IMG_2655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv9HHLDmp1dKFH1bHgUc6YjpBfLWwGh66_aNsOA9KlLN8DpuOVLN7D793kUwSKzx24d-_jlhaZ2E2GeeEHLQWiuiuoHDw8Gd1AKykY62ybN4Td4QscalPg_qQZPSSQaXFetySVNrOBT1L5/s320/IMG_2655.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And yes, it was late summer when I completed this quilt, maybe only 5 months ago. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4jm77ABuQDpAwPvj3azJ-Ki1qGTYJXMUbOiNyt2WvhDHm1KFNKbAeUz5uKKzLeDJeDYnDjmw1Z4W6rPNbJ6yBO_UQNe9p6pKQBUSB7qmrTK72vlOKI62mbTJ1-XDKCWy3p-Pertr7lArW/s1600/IMG_2653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4jm77ABuQDpAwPvj3azJ-Ki1qGTYJXMUbOiNyt2WvhDHm1KFNKbAeUz5uKKzLeDJeDYnDjmw1Z4W6rPNbJ6yBO_UQNe9p6pKQBUSB7qmrTK72vlOKI62mbTJ1-XDKCWy3p-Pertr7lArW/s400/IMG_2653.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, here is the story for this quilt... My oldest daughter studied abroad at Oxford this summer. When I found these 'British' fabrics I decided she needed a quilt! (middle row below) Its a simple disappearing 9 patch that she can cuddle with watching movies in the rec room at the dorms. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-zBenXqTXRbMpsu_vajvE0bF-o2IdgASI2wte6OUWcyB7Hesp844D8Hu5oWJZxPfoTLZeW89ehn0WNkuEtD6c_-az4xjMdVzBLeczCm6ShCK4UURgYE0QtAjphPLuYiZLZgGwstR4bwkQ/s1600/10629613_10204927808744188_916964556800181794_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-zBenXqTXRbMpsu_vajvE0bF-o2IdgASI2wte6OUWcyB7Hesp844D8Hu5oWJZxPfoTLZeW89ehn0WNkuEtD6c_-az4xjMdVzBLeczCm6ShCK4UURgYE0QtAjphPLuYiZLZgGwstR4bwkQ/s320/10629613_10204927808744188_916964556800181794_n.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And since the material is posted, I will move to quilt number 2 completed in the past months for daughter #2. She is in the High School marching band and wanted a 'show' quilt, a quilt that matched the theme of this years marching show to take on the big road trip to San Antonio to State Championships (more on that to come). I made her one last year when the theme was <a href="http://elmo-lifescraps.blogspot.com/2013/08/chevron-love.html">snakes</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NiUYPFumVbVBeJRACXmEhpeNVZ4STE8gXGOSUkfQBsAUfdo4s6i0qGyeTai4gUZdaHw26VdzxNxLgL8MsmCC5H_Ron9KidfyTNiUzflxYnMDxM92fMYlmewIfcmSZlbH8VqxPpeSY_bD/s1600/10628075_10205174374108168_2582724992301550648_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NiUYPFumVbVBeJRACXmEhpeNVZ4STE8gXGOSUkfQBsAUfdo4s6i0qGyeTai4gUZdaHw26VdzxNxLgL8MsmCC5H_Ron9KidfyTNiUzflxYnMDxM92fMYlmewIfcmSZlbH8VqxPpeSY_bD/s320/10628075_10205174374108168_2582724992301550648_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The show had a gem motif this year which I thought would be easier, but this was the only fabric I could find. I think it turned out great, a small bus size quilt and matching pillow case. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am pretty proud that I got these two quilts done in the time period... anyone familiar with competitive marching band, well, I did more than flags this year, but will save that for tomorrows post.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hi! I actually have still been sewing! I completed my Layer Cake 1-2-3 quilt from Katie Jump fabrics. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made both my daughters quilts from my stash of this line for Christmas and had started this one for me, however, my mother saw it and commented how much she liked it, so she got it for Mothers Day. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I apologize for the resolution, I don't know why these pictures are so bad. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since I already gave both quilts away I can not re-take them. </div>

It rained this weekend, a perfect time to settle in and get a quilt done! This had been sitting on my table for many weeks, half quilted, waiting for me to complete. Happy it is done!</div>

I have obsessed before about my love of the Lush line by Erin Michael. I collected quite a few of the prints and the similar Up Town, and recently was able to add to my collection the elusive paint by number deer print with the reprint named Lush Uptown. The only problem was that I could not bring myself to cut into the fabric until I found the perfect pattern that displayed the large scale deer print. </div>

<div align="center">
Can you see it? Why I named my new low volume quilt Macaron? This was a box of Macarons that we got on our recent trip to New Orleans and I think it picks up all the wonderful colors!</div>

<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-cKuijHhkBdZdYkyE6MEk088nIIVq3qoOiCZfo-3QcYpRySlhzAlwy8CBIqe7jSuaLaBnwQ-1GHvDVoxzSF1duyrPPPlGlzJGhLbMBeysUvP0QMvwBh6Cg_AKhGR7p3wTYeD1ULqgtM9q/s1600/IMG_1872.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-cKuijHhkBdZdYkyE6MEk088nIIVq3qoOiCZfo-3QcYpRySlhzAlwy8CBIqe7jSuaLaBnwQ-1GHvDVoxzSF1duyrPPPlGlzJGhLbMBeysUvP0QMvwBh6Cg_AKhGR7p3wTYeD1ULqgtM9q/s1600/IMG_1872.JPG" height="640" width="476" /></a><br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This quilt is the 'cousin' to the <a href="http://elmo-lifescraps.blogspot.com/2013/09/low-volume-love.html">low volume quilt I made this summer</a>. </div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As has happened a couple of times, when sorting scraps and cutting more squares, I had a pile of strips left over which morph into quilt number 2, the cousin of the first as it is related, but not the same. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is rainy and cloudy this morning, but I think the colors show pretty well. There are a couple pops of red/pint that show through as well as a couple darker prints. I used a pale Heather Baily print from the Fresh Cut line for the back and a creamy linen texture print from Riley Blake for binding, all from my stash. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last year I DVR'd and watched the initial 7+ seasons of NCIS and all of Burn Notice, watching most of them while sewing and quilting. At one time I had 78 episodes on NCIS stored on DVR! Since then there have been issues with the DVR (piece of junk), but have been managing through the fall using on demand to see a couple series, entertaining me while sewing, but got inspired today and decided to branch out! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In addition to jumping on the Downton Abbey band wagon, I also got season 1 and 2 of Game of Thrones. After some research, determined that 'season 1' (Dr.9) is the place to jump into Dr. Who! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
BBC America graciously had a one hour special on what you need to know to watch the Dr. that explained enough that I think we are ready to go... wish I had watched it first and I would have jumped in at Dr. 10, but I plan to watch Dr. 9 while sewing and if it is as good as its supposed to be I will bring hubby in at regeneration. </div>

This is the Arcadia quilt that I dug out and will be the first in the video series. Just a note to myself and anyone else who may benefit, when setting aside a project for hiatus, make a little sketch or notes on what your plan was. I spent 20 min looking at the blocks and trying to figure out what I was doing before being able to pick up progress. </div>

Last, a shout out to the serger, great little thing. She will be headed to the sewing machine spa tomorrow for a long overdue cleaning. Best I can figure I have had her close to 20 years and have never had her serviced/cleaned. I have been using her to give a clean finish to quilt edges after quilting before binding. The spot on the front is glue from the name emblem that melted and dripped when we moved here 10 years ago.. I expect a little WD40 will take it off, but have never gotten around to it. My hope is that when I get her back in a couple weeks that will be gone and I will have 3-4 quilt tops quilted and ready for her to zip around.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, after listing all my UFO's pending in my last post, I figured the most appropriate thing to do was start a new quilt! I have been loving the <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt-tutorial.html">giant block quilt</a> and saw a couple this past week that inspired me (<a href="http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2013/07/giant-indie-star-quilt.html">1</a> & <a href="http://www.imagingermonkey.blogspot.com/2013/12/in-2014-i-shall.html">2</a>). This <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt-tutorial.html">pattern</a> is super easy, I got the star part pieced, cutting and sewing blocks, in the second half of the 49'ers/Packers game. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Its now hanging up on the design wall waiting to be sewn together. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI6DrioN0dlnlnTdG3WJY1bHbkrvZ56JwmV6WjNUNKrIloPRnBf8ZyTsv1gNd7SGDUFM1NX80XVCSEAoOIck0UI9MDJvXqf7m-85TYFbjVN2REuAopLjQtbVVeG3wGh4bJDUvYLO4BqPaY/s1600/IMG_1860.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI6DrioN0dlnlnTdG3WJY1bHbkrvZ56JwmV6WjNUNKrIloPRnBf8ZyTsv1gNd7SGDUFM1NX80XVCSEAoOIck0UI9MDJvXqf7m-85TYFbjVN2REuAopLjQtbVVeG3wGh4bJDUvYLO4BqPaY/s1600/IMG_1860.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I gave myself permission to go ahead and make this after finding the backing (field study by AMH) in a little shopping excursion last week. Don't hate me, it was $3/yard. The Sandi Henderson next to it was $4.50. I got 5 yards of each.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc1lZx7ukObyR7bxx8p0_zFG7MXapnGtQbV5b064ObAfF2kcIDD36J-r-1BOqE2yUPRtmNiDbwrzBUF2She4CoEW2TtOoIOldQMcVXxDMmeQuFTfoM2886Y6s5GfhDZa8OuTF_L1J8jD5q/s1600/IMG_1861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc1lZx7ukObyR7bxx8p0_zFG7MXapnGtQbV5b064ObAfF2kcIDD36J-r-1BOqE2yUPRtmNiDbwrzBUF2She4CoEW2TtOoIOldQMcVXxDMmeQuFTfoM2886Y6s5GfhDZa8OuTF_L1J8jD5q/s1600/IMG_1861.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are some other new acquisitions. The piles of cream and blue/grey are for a project I have been envisioning and started collecting for. Below them are a linen found at Hancock Fabrics for $3/yard and the aqua is Essex Linen that I got for $2 yard. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love fabric shopping and I need to stop finding such great deals! I used the linen in the star quilt after researching different opinions on use in quilts and pre-washing (didn't). We'll see. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Those are the new, and this is the old. I completed the remaining blocks for the 'cousin' low volume quilt. It is cousin to the <a href="http://elmo-lifescraps.blogspot.com/2013/09/low-volume-love.html">original made from squares</a> that I then had strips left over, hence, once quilt with squares and one with strips!</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Love, love, love this and hope to have it all done by end of the week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the spirit of using up scraps I pieced the batting to use and rather than succumb to the temptation of buying a fabulous cream on white fabric that I found cheap, I used a fabric from stash for the backing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope everyone is staying warm! It was 12 F here this morning which I know is warm compared to some of you... but goodness, I live in the south!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Its that time again, to see what I completed on my 2013 UFO list and what gets turned over to the 2014 list, and of course what new things I started in 2013 and didn't complete, adding to the list as well. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The good news is that I actually completed THREE quilts that were on the list last year! ... to of set those I have 3 too add:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXhNrFb8S7a0A7PXIW55R2aJoml4qLA-OjZAz7omkYSXsHC42e4G289lYAsn3EgM1p0amSNxIfMjtnouPb9jRzlA28acO31b785JvV42Nia0E9sF7GotG0ALK8PwHcmoUGl7oNEdYl90MK/s1600/IMG_0524.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXhNrFb8S7a0A7PXIW55R2aJoml4qLA-OjZAz7omkYSXsHC42e4G289lYAsn3EgM1p0amSNxIfMjtnouPb9jRzlA28acO31b785JvV42Nia0E9sF7GotG0ALK8PwHcmoUGl7oNEdYl90MK/s320/IMG_0524.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Got this top completed 1/17/13, but never got it quilted. I have the border on and the backing is ready, lets hear it for a completion by its anniversary!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Piece of cake 2, started in the Craftsy class, top and backing done, need to sandwich and quilt... see a trend? The third one is the cousin to the low volume done in August, with strips, and I actually pulled it out and am working on it! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Swoon, started 1/2012, I have renewed enthusiasm for this and hope to get back to work on it soon!</div>

This year I decided to make them twin quilts from the Katie Jump Rope fabric that I had setting out... I had no idea I had collected so much of this fabric, pretty sure I am going to end up with a total of 5 quilts from my stash.</div>

I LOVE my Bernina! It is now termed 'vintage' by the dealer, which means they can charge me extra for maintenance cleaning. I love it so much I worry about it incurring a fatal flaw and leaving me which has me periodically checking ebay for a replacement. </div>

Last year I cringed every time we went on a band competition because I would have to deliver her to the logistics crew along with a bag of scraps, table and chair to be loaded on one of the trailers. I would beg for them to put her in the back seat of a truck w/seatbelt on rather than stash in the back of a trailer. And last year at every competition I would have to take her out and have them fire up the generator for power to fix stuff. </div>

This year was not as bad, better flag design, less rips, and I used my really old Kenmore that I brought home from the closet at the family cabin where I had stashed her for emergency vacation sewing. Great, but I call her 'The Anchor' because she is heavy. It would be a sad day if I ever had to lug this one across a parking lot to set up and use. And, I still used the Bernina for mid week flag action, which resulted in the last calamity... pretty sure I hit a small rock or turf pellet when fixing a hem resulting in a 4 week trip to Mr. Sewing Machine for the Bernina and the threat that if the gear was broke it was all over. Lucky it was just the timing that was thrown off and she is back in the rotation, but it was a scare. </div>

Enter Black Friday sale at Hancock Fabrics. Last year I spotted this little gem in the add but when I got there at 8am they were all gone. This year I saw it in the add again, but at 5am Friday morning it did not seem like a priority, but at 10am when heading to Sam's Club for the college kid to stock up before returning to school I decided to stop and if they had any still in stock, well, it would be mine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They had a stack of 10 sitting there. These were listed for @ $220 reg, Black Friday Sale $79. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There was one set out and I took it for a spin... she did ok, but how would she be on lame and china poly silk? Uhm, SWEET! In two years sewing flags on the Bernina and assorted other machines I have struggled with tension on these fabrics and that is the consistent complaint from the rest of the team, but this sews flat and beautiful with both the zig zag and the utility zig zag. And it is super light, about 10 lbs max. If I have any complaint it is that when I sew fast it jumps around because it is so light. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I got a little side tracked this week. I got back to sewing and realized I wanted to make 5 quilts for Christmas. You would think that would motivate me to work on them, but, after working on a couple of them I got distracted and decided my girls needed pillow cases. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Its that time of the year, when I tell you what I have been doing since August.... </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip809RRFx_Eln62OBzJ23tGO2d2gOTaBvWogv8McjX6yPy3Xx6TjKjRewA3ELGeiF8gm4J0nORCooyYs6rXkB1ePEd_keS3OJOHuKjTwfbkXZzF3A-fyv82x0haVf3bZvhC7dM6DFky9uM/s1600/blog-eye.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip809RRFx_Eln62OBzJ23tGO2d2gOTaBvWogv8McjX6yPy3Xx6TjKjRewA3ELGeiF8gm4J0nORCooyYs6rXkB1ePEd_keS3OJOHuKjTwfbkXZzF3A-fyv82x0haVf3bZvhC7dM6DFky9uM/s320/blog-eye.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
All the secret sewing that was done for the band flags that I can now tell about as the season is over.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_sShaGClRf_FDwLsOC6SPNLZ0P_Bg7ISs_O2Xsxkz57hJa0mElCooZOb_W0kJs4f6yv5jHo70yDQG0JPBIOPkRx83No8f04aGGQ3tLxNlf_a5EYsRZTJfOYia_IVl_na2Zmfij96zRD2t/s1600/blog-snake1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_sShaGClRf_FDwLsOC6SPNLZ0P_Bg7ISs_O2Xsxkz57hJa0mElCooZOb_W0kJs4f6yv5jHo70yDQG0JPBIOPkRx83No8f04aGGQ3tLxNlf_a5EYsRZTJfOYia_IVl_na2Zmfij96zRD2t/s320/blog-snake1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year a lot of the flags were screen printed and the team constructed them (cut out, hem and make pole pocket) and enhanced them. The flag above has three different colors of lame that was pseudo appliqued to both sides. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvaDEVyUAkGCt7jwTRz4FtUvg2F0R_7hOFMCHMXW9xGZH1btXkqrTr4pQRw-WNK9Zo76kX7xZrKrbbbeM_ifo9YWWE6Vsf5HRELOAWDaq3xu38eZN_MQgpRWKafm4aIcudeWk8nBR9pv3N/s1600/blog-snake2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvaDEVyUAkGCt7jwTRz4FtUvg2F0R_7hOFMCHMXW9xGZH1btXkqrTr4pQRw-WNK9Zo76kX7xZrKrbbbeM_ifo9YWWE6Vsf5HRELOAWDaq3xu38eZN_MQgpRWKafm4aIcudeWk8nBR9pv3N/s400/blog-snake2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was determined there was not enough contrast for the snake on the white, so all these flags were re-made, cutting out the snake and piecing into a green background. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpqytNSiBUxdZBeQa8xGFuJUh7V-0uoBtWYwYdrJ-2cY71mKrlspmkP0zfeWBVAoK66VHeCs9xhVPtLnX-5JurB6Fz6CbOSRLZinv2eWINhLtRGWG-LdrRf4RsOuq0NFutJ3WHE_7dKJbW/s1600/blog-swing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpqytNSiBUxdZBeQa8xGFuJUh7V-0uoBtWYwYdrJ-2cY71mKrlspmkP0zfeWBVAoK66VHeCs9xhVPtLnX-5JurB6Fz6CbOSRLZinv2eWINhLtRGWG-LdrRf4RsOuq0NFutJ3WHE_7dKJbW/s320/blog-swing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These two (above & below) were enhanced with lame in the center of the snake scale. Sounds easy until you figure that there are 80 of the flags above, with 9 diamonds on each side for 1440 total.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also got to do some uniform work this year. The shiny green was added to the 'M' on the chest and shako (hat) as well as buttons, all 396 buttons.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this is the final product, the band at competition this past weekend at Grand Nationals! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Its been a great season, but I will admit that the first thing I did after the laundry from the trip was done is imagineer a quilt and go buy fabric for it. Cutting to commence this evening.</div>

I completed this quit on the evening before Halloween! I think that I will call is Candy Corn as the shapes remind me of that candy. It has a solid orange flannel backing. I am in love with flannel backing right now, so warm and snuggly!</div>

I got my low volume quilt done! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started this in July when we got back from CA. I was blog hopping and saw all the lovely light colors in quilts and it appealed to me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with scraps, then decided I wanted to make it big, so I sorted through my FQ and short cuts in my stash to use too.</div>

My helper was getting tired, sorry there are not better pictures! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is not quite a queen size, but will be perfect for the end of the bed to pull up on cold nights!</div>

While tracking down some fabric that I 'needed' at a local quilt store, my daughter picked up a pre-packaged stack of fabric that she "LOVED" and "NEEDED" a quilt for her dorm room out of. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, the package was for a baby quilt and that was not going to work, so we tracked down most of the bolt and some substitutes a picked a <a href="http://store.thequiltasylum.com/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=658488924576584&Store_id=648&page_id=23&Item_ID=20529">sample quit off the wall as out inspiration</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The sample quilt was for a class offering, but the lady who made it pointed me to the book she used, Chevron Love by Sweet Treasures Publications.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvXq-ngShSUtdv-N5JeEhblYwel3phiYkFcDw1QDgYHhoRnJxrOzzUhOdLM6eEk33n3N29_EnfDbsfSq6AwHYih9mIuU2RShXTLiFxVLVz6lLnrtwaI2KRroQ1zwMXdpDF3VRLpNIQAa_4/s1600/Sams+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvXq-ngShSUtdv-N5JeEhblYwel3phiYkFcDw1QDgYHhoRnJxrOzzUhOdLM6eEk33n3N29_EnfDbsfSq6AwHYih9mIuU2RShXTLiFxVLVz6lLnrtwaI2KRroQ1zwMXdpDF3VRLpNIQAa_4/s320/Sams+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know there are lots of chevron patterns out there, but this was better than any I have seen online. The quilt came together in a couple days and she had it ready to take to dorm move in this last week!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In fact, it was so super easy, I was able to make 2 in a 10 day time period. My oldest who wanted the quilt already had 2 quilts more than her sister, who had requested a quilt for this years band show, specifically the bus ride to Indy they will be making in November. I had found the snake material which fits the show theme and had a stack of fabric thinking a disappearing nine patch. So happy I went with this instead! The back is a lovely red flannel. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can not believe that it is August, I am working on band flags again, and I still had time to put these to together! Now it just needs to cool down enough to be able to use them.</div>

Hmm... well, I have done a couple things so I better get to sharing!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxkgNgybSZ3swCcPZgl8jdsBCJ79V84_AuCls1QJMWgw-6tJ8XEKha9YkMhFh9KGqjExn7KNlPYaVuaWBty4YW0IJuNU3DpDsSwb4tWuDZ7NYgDvxcuvbffdojyM2_vsLcSIexeLsdgDn1/s1600/IMG_1282.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxkgNgybSZ3swCcPZgl8jdsBCJ79V84_AuCls1QJMWgw-6tJ8XEKha9YkMhFh9KGqjExn7KNlPYaVuaWBty4YW0IJuNU3DpDsSwb4tWuDZ7NYgDvxcuvbffdojyM2_vsLcSIexeLsdgDn1/s320/IMG_1282.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this for a friend who just added a baby boy grandchild to her family. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkQMYg3OfCCSMMVSdmTIZtoZUqMpwM-BOSnPZYLHECw8VhkVOoKPWcEWf4w_OlWg9IRSV_pSGnLj-ALMB4nKdTF20M8FrEoXF3XIBbs76oKi1qPhhjKBwJtUPJyfhBCqKSp5lqlUI4A9cL/s1600/IMG_1283.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkQMYg3OfCCSMMVSdmTIZtoZUqMpwM-BOSnPZYLHECw8VhkVOoKPWcEWf4w_OlWg9IRSV_pSGnLj-ALMB4nKdTF20M8FrEoXF3XIBbs76oKi1qPhhjKBwJtUPJyfhBCqKSp5lqlUI4A9cL/s320/IMG_1283.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had the blue/brown stashed away that were extra from my <a href="http://elmo-lifescraps.blogspot.com/2011/02/make-life.html">'Make Life' jelly roll quilt</a> done several years ago and I had a couple pieces that I had picked up on sale that I was able to use for the end pieces and backing. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrvIDPsWBrfmswgVJxmPZ7oeHng687aYmdCSyxekB-qpTRcfxlUdAOuIqBLKGqYAnNVKD6kbGsFu0k9OCHSaS9LOaUoy4wWBcu6lp8ynStn_gu3MBDzZODe2P-CrMlIYpNbTaBDL3DriTr/s1600/IMG_1284.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrvIDPsWBrfmswgVJxmPZ7oeHng687aYmdCSyxekB-qpTRcfxlUdAOuIqBLKGqYAnNVKD6kbGsFu0k9OCHSaS9LOaUoy4wWBcu6lp8ynStn_gu3MBDzZODe2P-CrMlIYpNbTaBDL3DriTr/s320/IMG_1284.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern, <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/simplify-quilts-for-the-modern-home">Little Man from Camille Roskelley's first book</a> worked great to use what I had. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am working on a couple more things that I am super excited about including a new queen sized Low Volume quilt that I look forward to sharing. I hope it will not be 2 months before I share again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I am linking to <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2013/08/can-i-get-whoop-whoop-finally-finish.html">Sarah's Woop fest</a> to celebrate a finish and a post!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started on this about a month ago when my daughter got an iPad from her Grandmother for graduation. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghb1NGxehCU2otza-OhZlOqB38t0vRAt3X6qCTs_N-VtpApvEtoF3X-KamwTxKJAfFPJy8Juwe82MTCpqTgAyNjaxj6coi8Q9n1JqybpMLPzCwzTKWSvDNPuda7hYcfyt58ZdT92C3uTmy/s1600/IMG_1046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghb1NGxehCU2otza-OhZlOqB38t0vRAt3X6qCTs_N-VtpApvEtoF3X-KamwTxKJAfFPJy8Juwe82MTCpqTgAyNjaxj6coi8Q9n1JqybpMLPzCwzTKWSvDNPuda7hYcfyt58ZdT92C3uTmy/s320/IMG_1046.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a <a href="http://oneshabbychick.typepad.com/one_shabby_chick/2011/01/an-ipad-cover-tutorial.html">tutorial from one shabby chick</a> and over all am very please with it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I may make the external cover 1/2 inch larger for the next one, since there are 2 layers of batting the internal sleeve bunches up a little inside. This one was the tester, made with some Amy Butler Love home dec fabric and the lining is Sandi Henderson flannel, both from my stash. I am now ready to bust out and make a bunch of these (maybe 2) for graduation gifts!</div>
