I inherited several boxes of scraps among other yardage from my grandmother. I finally went thru and organized my own style. Anything that was large enough to be cut into 5"X5" I made squares, then 2.5 inch strips....I just let the fabric speak to me. There were 3 shoe boxes of 1x1 to 2X2 (& all in between) sloppy squares went into it's own shopping bag. It only took me 2 years to realize the small squares in her shoe boxes where for a cathedral quilt - which I have now started.

I have to keep everything visual because if I put it away I forget about it, out of sight out of mind. So, in the guest room (aka my sewing room) I placed 2 mid-sized boxes on the dresser and stacked as evenly as possible my yardage by color and solid (cotton only). I am still reorganizing. The one big thing I realized is .... always pre-wash before it makes it to the guest room. I have short memory retention for such details.

Think of the type of quilting you like to do and see what you personally use the most. I find that 2.5 strips are in almost everything I do.TDJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08817121569506932308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664247988852576876.post-17341701135669475762012-01-10T21:30:43.376-06:002012-01-10T21:30:43.376-06:00I got the book for Christmas but haven't start...I got the book for Christmas but haven't started doing anything in it yet. I have absolutely NO way of organizing scraps, so maybe this book will help!Debhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03843672826198310903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664247988852576876.post-14205854744184356732012-01-10T20:17:37.485-06:002012-01-10T20:17:37.485-06:00How funny - I just got the book in the mail today ...How funny - I just got the book in the mail today from Amazon! I started cutting my scraps by her size suggestions, because I find it just as easy to cut scrap pieces with a rotary cutter and straight edge. It went pretty fast - I pulled about a dozen pieces out of my scrap basket (the one on my sewing table), pressed them and cut them out - ended up with a nice stack of all three sizes and a bunch of little smidges in the trash! Woohoo!! I love that there are so many patterns in the book that use the sizes she recommended cutting, too!Sarah Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18393284767325742399noreply@blogger.com
