snowy whooop

My snowy day quilt is done! I quilted with straight line an either side of the seams using a light grey thread top and bottom. The binding is yellow corn kona. Backing is kona from my stash in sage, and two unknowns.

This is all new snow from this morning, sitting on top of 2-3 inches of ice. It was still snowing when I went out to take the pictures. I am sure that none of the sports commentators here for the Super Bowl that are complaining about the weather were here a week ago when in was almost 80 degrees.... no kidding, shorts on the golf course last Friday.

I am linking with Sara Craigs Whoop-Whoop linky party. Be sure to check out the other great whoop worthy projects listed.

Road to Spring - done!

This is the front of my Road to Spring Quilt Along!

This is the back! The quilt measures about 40 x50. It is made from Denyse Schmidt Katie Jump Rope. This washed up so nice and soft, I am tempted to make a larger one for myself!

I used the binding techniques discussed in a prior post and used another of my new labels. Did I say how yummy this is and how pleased I am with the quilt?

Thanks to Randi for hosting the QAL. It was lots of fun.

And another quilt along - Pinwheels week 2!

Flannel Beauty

This is the Truckee Mystery Quilt, and it is done!

I found this quilt in the boxes of sewing stuff when I unpacked about 6 months ago. Here I explained why this had been in a box for about 6 years. When I found it all but the last step in the bocks were done and ready for assembly. This is not a pattern that I would have picked out myself which is the beauty of the mystery... I ended up with something that I never would have started had I known what I was starting.

All washed up it is 49 x 66. The top is all flannel and the backing is a Moda print from my stash. I had in my mind that I wanted to back it in flannel as well and one day it occurred to me how perfect this fabric would be. It looks like it was made to go together. The binding is also something I found in my stash. The binding is the only part I am not thrilled with. I sewed it on by machine and my technique still needs some work.

I loved it before washing, but after it is all puffy and all the little imperfections in my quilting went away like magic!

We are suposed to get a 'wintery mix' in the morning (in CA we called it slushing) and I already plan to cuddle with this quilt and a cup of coffee in the morning for the morning news!

Progress

I had a little set back yesterday and did not get as far along as I wanted due to a vicious headache, but happy to report that I was able to make up the lost ground today, completing the quilting of the flannel quilt (will share tomorrow when binding is done) and getting the piecing done for the Road to Spring baby quilt. This is expected to come in at about 40 x 45 so maybe more a toddler size. I am loving these colors! I have the brown bandanna print for the back and I think I will run a strip of the dots through it to add interest. The brown stripe shown is planned for binding.

This will now be put aside till next weeks installment of the quilt along. I am going to now go prepare the binding for the flannel so I can pin that tonight while watching TV with the family. Its NCIS night!

RWB Irish Chain

I showed this project a couple of months ago as one of the UFO's that were found when I unpacked my stuff from moving here 6 years ago. I had found a backing I liked and it had joined the stack of WIP awaiting the walking foot. I was thinking it would be a nice table topper for July since the colors were so patriotic, however.... my husband recently moved into a new office at work that had terrible art work and he asked if I would make something for him to hang to replace the corporate art.

I decided this would be perfect! The company logo has these colors, and this has enough contrast it will pop as a wall hanging. I completed the binding yesterday and today it is off to work.

I made it from what is now an old Eleanor Burns pattern, Irish Chain single and double from the Quilt in a Day series. Do you buy quilt pattern books? Single patterns? Do you buy them online or in a store? Or do you scope out tutorials or other references that are free on line? This is definitely a pattern that if I made it today I would be finding it online rather than pay for, but, at the time (almost 10 years ago) that was not an option, so I consider it $7.95 well spent.

I am adding this as my Sew & Tell Friday contirbution.

Be sure to check out the other great projects. Last week over 40 projects were listed!

February Giveaway is already closed for this day, but be sure to visit and comment on my most recent post and any new posts untill 2/12 for a chance to win!

Red Squared

Almost two months ago I asked for help on picking borders for this quilt. Since then it has sat in the WIP pile waiting for me to get a walking foot because I wanted to quilt this with lines.

I got my foot and finished it up! It come out as 49 x49. It is made from 2 charm packs of Rouenneries by French General for Moda Fabrics, border and backing are from my stash.

I am calling it Red Squared, (in honor of my daughters math homework). If you look close you can see the tag on the right side of the backing. This is the first quilt I have sewn a tag on.

Loving this fabric so much, I could not waste a single square, so I made up a little mini that served as practice for the walking foot and is now designated as a candle mat.

I am sharing this for Sew and Tell, be sure and check out the other projects this week! Also, be sure to check back on Monday 2/1 when I will be posting a give away!

Baby triangles = baby snowball

I have all 100 of the siggy blocks done! I had commented when I signed up that the question was if I was going to mess with all the little triangles that are left over. This is what I ended up trying with some of the white and a couple charm packs I had... raggedy snowballs. I hope the triangle edges will fray a bit when washed, and I think I will stipple quilt the patterned parts only, so the white will pop. I played with laying out with sashing but think I like it better without.

This is Sandi Henderson French Hat Box... so Shabby Chic! I ordered the fabric for a border and backing and now I just need to find a baby girl to gift it to :)

A name for my wonky rails

Roads of Rt 66 is what I decided to name this quilt. I was midway through the process, having cut all the blocks and laying them out to preview, when we did a road trip from TX to CA. When we got back this quilt reminded me so much of the road we traveled... mostly divided 2 lanes (grey), but in spots the interstate was red, I assume because the local clay soil, and often you would see the side roads, often the old Rt 66, and in areas just dirt roads. The fields lining the roads were golden dead grass, plowed fields, and in spots there was snow. I see all of these when I look at this quilt. (Don't worry if you don't. My husband was on the same trip and he thinks I am crazy)

I love the way it came together. I love the backing fabric which was from my stash. The two solids are kona cotton, Sand and Coal with pieces left from the block cutting. The binding is a small Andover print that is also used in the blocks. It measures 52 x62, but I have not yet washed it. (when washed it is 49 x 58 and all crinkly!)
One last time, thanks to Cheryl for the quilt along tutorial!

I am sharing this for Sew & Tell Friday, be sure to check out everyone elses projects too!

French General progress

No surprise, since I had shared that my 5 WIP were all runners, well, its another table runner. I got a charm pack of these beautiful reds and taupes, then had to get another to match the triangles... then I ended up with 2 packs of 30 left, so got ANOTHER pack so I will be sure to have enough to make something else :) anyone else do that? end up with more in the leftover pile than you actually used on a project?

This makes 4 runners that are ready to be quilted so I am going to set up my acrylic table thingy and swap on the darning foot and free motion the day away! Since the rain just moved in, this will be a good to to just hunker down, me and the machine till I pick up the kiddos.

Hope you all have a great day!... and don't forget to comment to be entered in the fist 50 comments giveaway!

Another table runner

This is a table runner I made and shipped to my sister last week.

Table runners make great projects for me right now because they are quick and they are small enough to practice free motion with out worrying about tug and pulling through the machine.

I have just unpacked my machine and supplies after having them in storage for about 6 years and am loving getting back in the groove of planning, cutting, sewing, and now adding actual quilting as well.

First Post

Wow, my first post! Well lets start this out by sharing a table runner I made and sent to my mom last week! This was made with 5" squares and jumbo rick-rack. It was my first attempt at free motion quilting and I think it turned out pretty good for a newbie but I am not sure you can even see from this picture....

So, two things to work on for next post... better picture to show details and figure out how to put in signature block.

Thanks for looking!
